The man accused of killing 21-year-old student Precious Ramabulana at the weekend is confessing to the South African Police Service (SAPS) following his arrest according to Police Minister Bheki Cele who spoke to members of the media at the National Press Club in Pretoria this morning.
“The President had instructed the police to find the perpetrator and the police have responded to that. It was discovered that it was somebody that is not even a student. It might be somebody that didn’t even know her. It has been established that it is somebody that comes around the neighborhood who has nothing to do with or a link with the students. He is not a student himself. We are trying to get the motive but one thing that literally helps us at the current moment is that – I must say – he has begun to confess.”
Cele says police who made the arrest found Ramabulana’s phone in the suspect’s possession.
“The issue here is the brutality, killing this young women and all that. We cannot become use to it but (the) brutality is so heavy that we hope we will be assisted by this person to tell us why such brutality against a young woman.”
Meanwhile a memorial service organized for Ramabulana by Capricorn TVET College is currently undeway at the institution’s Ramokgopa campus. No senior government leaders are present although Limpopo Community Safety and Liasion MEC Dickson Masemola visioted the rented room where Precious was kulled yestaersay.
