Miss SA under fire for insensitive “opposite the post office” request

Miss SA 2019, Zozibini Tunzi, is currently on the chopping block.

The 26-year-old, unconsciously captioned one of her images in a way that South Africans have found to be insensitive, “Guys! I can’t even believe I’m writing this but I’m leaving for Atlanta tomorrow to go and compete at Miss Universe! Please do me the huge honor of letting me say goodbye at the airport from 14:30 – 16:00. Further details on the image…”

The image then reads, “we’ll be opposite the post office, on the ground floor between international and domestic arrivals.”

Fans of the reigning Miss SA have said the words “opposite the post office” were a bit insensitive as the post office in Claremont, Cape Town – which is opposite the police station – is where Uyinene Mrwetyana took her last breath.

Although some people found the words triggering, there are tweeps who are defending the Eastern Cape beauty.

“You people are so vile! It’s disheartening – attacking Miss SA for doing her farewell opposite a post office is not it. People out here saying it’s triggering – well so are homes, clubs, SCHOOLS… The entire SA should be triggering because rape & murder happens everywhere.”

Another user tweeted, “Y’all cannot possibly be touched that Miss SA mentioned the Post Office. Guys, it’s understandable to be triggered. But it is unfair to take your triggers out on Zozibini. The South African Post office is always going to exist. Yours is to learn how to compartmentalise.”
