Mokgalapa visited young business people in the township of Mabopane, north of Tshwane, on Wednesday.
In a partnership with a private bank, the City developed initiatives to financially support the businesses of young people in the City, especially in the townships.
Mokgalapa, however, has called on all communities to support the young people who are in business.
“Working with Standard Bank South Africa on this partnership has been beneficial. Any community that doesn’t harness the potential of young people is dead,” Mokgalapa said.
Tshwane continues to record the high number of youth unemployment compared to other metropolitan municipalities.
With the national youth unemployment continues to mount, the City also contributes to the chunk of that percentage.
However, Mokgalapa believes with young people venturing into business, unemployment can be reduced in the City.
Mokgalapa has recently announced that his administration is looking to create at least 110 000 jobs through the unskilled project’s, the Expanded Public Works Programme.
