NSFAS applicants urged to be alert amid fraudsters rip-offs

With the 2020 academic year funding applications still open, the National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is warning of fraudsters capitalizing on the process by ripping applicants off.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, the financial aid scheme said it has taken cognisance of applicants being requested to pay in order to be funded by NSFAS.

“We have been made aware of fraudsters who are impersonating NSFAS officials and requesting students to pay in order to be funded by NSFAS. Please note that applying for #NSFAS2020 funding is completely free and you DO NOT need to pay any fee to submit your #NSFAS2020 application”

To apply for funding, applicants can either head to application centres around the country for assistance or apply online by creating a myNSFAS account.

Applications close on November 30.
