The Pietermaritzburg high court has dismissed former President Jacob Zuma’s application for a permanent stay of prosecution on Friday.

Zuma appeared before the court with the hope that his corruption, fraud and racketeering charges will be permanently dropped.

However, the court dismissed his application with cost, in a sitting that only lasted less than an hour.

The court dismissed Zuma’s application for permanent prosecution

Zuma will now have to stand for his much-awaited trial which will start next week.

The former President Zuma will have to convince the court that he never benefitted from the controversial arms deal saga.

The North Gauteng High court previously dismissed judge Willie Seriti’s findings, which exonerated Zuma from the arms deal.

Now his legal team will have to convince the Pietermaritzburg court that he is not corrupt.

It is not clear whether Zuma’s legal team will appeal today’s ruling.
