Gauteng Premier David Makhura has appointed Morakane Mosupyoe as the new MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture and Environment.
Mosupyoe replaces Kgosientsho Ramokgopa as the new boss for the Economic Development, Agriculture and Environment portfolio.
Makhura’s decision to reshuffle his cabinet comes after he was forced by the national leadership to do so.
Makhura, who took long to make the decision, has admitted that he is respecting the ANC’s national executive committee decision.
The NEC, which is the highest decision body maker, took a resolution that for every province which is led by a man, women should have 60% representation.
Mosupyoe completes the 60% required to meet the gender parity and will be tasked to hit the ground running immediately.
It is expected that the ANC in Tshwane will not be happy with this decision, as Makhura’s cabinet now does not have any representative from the region.
