5 things Vatiswa Ndara said in her open letter to minister Nathi Mthethwa

In an open letter addressed to the Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa seasoned actress Vatiswa Ndara, revealed the amount of abuse and unfair treatment actors receive from production houses.

The actress who was recently called for another season of iGazi, accused Ferguson Films of exploiting actors while they earn millions.

In a lengthy outcry letter for help, Vatiswa detailed the following:

  • Poor contractual agreements and expectations

The award-winning actress began by highlighting the offer she got from Ferguson Films for the third season of iGazi saying the contracts they receive only favours the channel and producers.

  • Poor remuneration

In addition to the same contract, the actress further says in the Film and Television industry there is a perception that actors should be grateful that they are getting work and in that regard, they should accept rates that were being offered in the early 2000s.

  • Poor working conditions

Furthermore, the actress revealed that there are poor working conditions in the industry as there is poor oversight by the channel on how producers spend funds and what those funds are spent on.

  • Unfair treatment by producers

The Veteran actress also revealed that producers appear to have unquestionable powers to treat actors however they wish and there is no equal opportunities in the film and television industry as producers are restricting development of creative talent in the country for self-interest and profiteering.

  • Bullying and Intimidation

The star who portrays the character of NomaRussia on Mzansi Magic hard-hitting drama series revealed that there is a lot of bullying and intimidation in the industry.

“This form of bullying and intimidation is used to coerce actors into accepting ridiculous working rates and conditions,” she said.

She further said that speaking out publicly about such things that are happening in the industry will get you blacklisted and mentioned a popular phrase that actors often come across whenever the are intimidated.

” I’ll make sure that you never work in the industry again,” she explained.
