A report from a certain publication revealed on Tuesday that Mekoa and Mohau Mokate had their contracts terminated by the Team of Choice during the off-season, however the former’s agent has insisted that his client is still with the KwaZulu-Natal-based club.

Mekoa’s agent Glyn Binkin has cleared the air, denying all reports that the winger has left Maritzburg, however stating that the club had proposed to have the player’s contract terminated just before the domestic transfer window closed.

“Its not true that Mekoa has left the club, ” said agent Glyn Binkin as quoted by SunSport.

“The club contacted us in the last day of the transfer window to indicate that the coach doesn’t see the player in his plans, but unfortunately it was too later, we couldn’t do anything.

“So the player is still under contract with the club.”

The agent is confident that the player is very much part of the team since both parties could not agree on settlement terms when the club told him that the player was not part of coach Eric Tinkler’s plans for the 2019/20 campaign.

Binkin was not impressed that the club made their decision on the player in the 11th hour emphasizing that the club should have made their intentions clear when the transfer window was still open.

The club also took to their official Twitter page to clarify the speculations.

“The club would like to place on record that it has not terminated the contract of Deolin Mekoa. Various media reports on Tuesday claimed that Mekoa’s contract had been ended, however, the club would like to set the record straight on this, “read the statement on Maritzburg’s Twitter page.

“Any confirmed and official team news will be released on our website and social media platforms.#WeAreUnited.’’

Mekoa was a top class player under the Team of Choice during the 2015/16 season when the team survived relegation under coach Ernst Middendorp’s guidance.

The 26-year-old winger was part of the national under-23 squad that competed in the Olympics Games in Brazil.

Mekoa was at the time linked to Mamelodi Sundowns but Maritzburg refused to sell him off along with the former club’s striker Evan Rusike.
