This comes after the ANC’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) decided to fire Zandile Gumede as the mayor of eThekwini.

With the PEC having given the provincial working committee seven days to find the new mayor, Zikalala has assured residents that the ANC will find the new mayor soon.

” For now up until the new exco is elected, they will still continue working and we are expecting that the process to take place speedily,” Zikalala said.

Many of Gumede’s supporters are seeing the PEC decision to fire her as a political decision.

However, Zikalala has dismissed that allegations and says the PEC decision to fire the entire executive shows that no one is being targeted.

” It is not about a person, it is not about an individual. It was about the exco as a whole.”

Gumede was relieved from her duties together with her entire executive team by the ruling party on Tuesday.
