According to BBCNews, the São Paulo attorney general’s office suspended the case because there was no evidence that could lead to Neymar been formally charged, but that it will be sent to prosecutors for a final decision.

The investigation was opened after Brazilian model Najila Trindade alleged that the PSG footballer had attacked her in a hotel in Paris, France, in May.

The 27-year-old denied the allegations, going as far as releasing a seven-minute video on his personal Instagram account about him being accused of rape, as well as Whatsapp messages and images he claimed were from Ms Trindade.

The model pursued the matter further, appearing in a television interview and releasing a footage and a video clip purportedly showing a tussle between him and Neymar.

Ms Trindade was dropped by several lawyers, and the prosecutors now have 15 days to go through the case before a final ruling is made by a judge.

Neymar becomes the second high-profile player in as many days to have a rape allegation case against him dropped, after Cristiano Ronaldo also had his sexual assault charges case against him dismissed in Las Vegas.
