Zuma on Mandonsela: ‘She wanted to enhance the narrative about him’

Former Public Prosecutor Thuli Madonsela has been accused by former President Jacob Zuma for having ulterior motives on pushing a negative agenda against him when she found out that he unduly benefited from the security upgrades at his Nkandla residence.

However, based on the report Mandonsela published, she solely wanted to get information on the truth, as to where and how Zuma obtained the funds of security and other upgrades valued over R240 million.

Once Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo heard Zuma’s concerns, it was announced that Zuma and his legal team will be allowed to submit written statements to the inquiry on incidents where other witnesses have implicated him in wrongdoing, as opposed to being questioned by a legal team in public.

Zuma addressed his supporters after the Zondo Commission of Inquiry had adjourned in Parktown, Johannesburg on Friday.

Zuma claims Madonsela ruled against him even though she found nothing wrong on his part.

He says: “She found no wrongdoing at all, nothing at all and decided to punish Zuma on the proposals made by our defence and the police. Zuma who did not ask for these things, the Public Protector said he must pay for it. The title of her report was interesting. She wanted to enhance the narrative about him. The title of the report was secured in comfort.”
