Do we still have community safety officers in SA?

13 people died in Cape Town over the weekend, the victims aged between 18 and 26, were shot dead at a residence in the Marcus Garvey community on Friday night.

The South African Police Stations are strongly recommended to avail themselves around the streets of South Africa and tighten up the safety of the community.

”The murders of were symptomatic of a complex socio-economic problem that required an urgent and multifaceted approach”, said Tina Joemat Patterson portfolio’s chairperson.

“From a policing point of view, the Minister and the senior management of the South African Police Service must move with speed to implement the promises that were made by President Cyril Ramaphosa in his recent State of the Nation Address of increasing visibility of police officers on the streets, especially in crime hot spot areas,” Joemat-Peterson added.

The portfolio committee on police said there must be strategies for the police to deal with the matter of illegal guns in South African communities.

“Violence against women remains one of the most repugnant forms of crime in the country and cannot be left unabated.”
