AFCON 2019 Match Preview: South Africa vs Egypt: Bafana looking to redeem themselves

Bafana Bafana take on favourites Egypt in a hotly-anticipated Africa Cup of Nations knockout stage contest at the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday evening, with history between the two teams favouring the South Africans.

Stuart Baxter’s side had very rocky and challenging group stage matches, resulting in one win and two losses out of three matches, while the Pharaohs have a clean record so far coming off from three triumphs on the trot, qualifying for the knockout stages with 100% record without conceding any goal.

The Pharaohs continue their route to the title with the clash promising to be a very interesting one as both teams have a lot at stake, with Bafana hoping to redeem themselves and Egypt eyeing the title.

Bafana midfielder Themba Zwane is set to miss out on the clash and Egypt’s talisman Mohamed Salah is reportedly ill after missing training ahead of the clash.

Looking at the team’s head-to-head, they met 11 times since November 25, 1995. Four of their meetings were AFCON-related wherein the Pharaohs registered two wins and Bafana one while drawing one. However, all-in-all Bafana won six matches of their 11 meetings while losing four and drawing one.
