DA: Gauteng government is failing the homeless

Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng Spokesperson on Social Development, Crezane Bosch says there has to be consequences for those in government who fail to assist the homeless in Gauteng.

This comes after a homeless man died on the steps of the Tshwane District Hospital earlier this week after being reportedly refused emergency services.

“The Democratic Alliance (DA) is calling on the MECs for Health, Social Development and Community Safety to immediately intervene in the various departments so that government services are extended to the most vulnerable and displaced members of our society,” said Bosch.

“There has to be consequences for those in government who fail to assist the homeless in our province. How this matter is dealt with will show whether the government cares about the homeless,” Bosch continued.

According to a car guard who was pleading for assistance for the homeless man they were chased away by the hospital staff.

The man is believed to have died two hours after lying outside the hospital doors.
