SA hockey men narrowly edge Russia to set up USA semi-final clash

South Africa’s national hockey men’s team will tackle the USA in the semi-finals of the International Hockey Federation Series Finals after narrowly seeing off Russia 2-1 in the quarterfinals in Bhubaneswar, India, on Wednesday.

Nqobile Ntuli broke the deadlock for the South Africans in the third quarter, but that lead was short-lived when Georgii Arussia fired home a penalty corner at the start of the final quarter.

SA piled the pressure on Russia and saw their resilience pay off when Tevin Kok squared up Ryan Julius who slotted home the winner.

South Africa know that a top-two finish will qualify them for the Olympic Qualifying matches on the Road to Tokyo, and will have to do it the hard way by avenging their earlier tournament defeat to USA.
