Exams were suspended at Mohlatlego Machaba High School in Ga-Motupa, Tzaneen, in Limpopo yesterday after an 18-year-old grade 12 pupil collided with eight schoolmates, while rushing to the exam.
School principal Emanuel Motshinye said the the learner was rushing to write his exam when the incident happened.
Motshinye said the victims were relaxing under the tree during lunch break.
“The children were sitting under the tree adjacent to the school fence,” he said. “But suddenly, a speeding vehicle came, at once killing one of them.”
He said teachers tried to help the victims to Relela Clinic to get medical assistance, but while they were on the way one of them, Koketso Rathlane, who was in grade 8 was declared dead on arrival at Letaba Hospital.
The report said that the suspect borrowed the car from the friend to drive to school as he was running late for the exam.
