The DA has written to the newly elected National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise, requesting her ti initiate a parliamentary inquiry.

The move came after the North Gauteng High Court set aside her report on the Gupta-linked Estina dairy farm in Vrede, ruling it as unlawful and invalid.

This is the latest court findings against Mkhwebane, amongst others.

An earlier submission by the DA to request an inquiry going after previous court rulings against her were discredited by the justice committee in February.

DA Chief Whip John Steenhuisen stated that it was not a request for Mkhwebane to be removed, but simply that her leadership and competence be investigated as provided per the Consitution.

“What we’re doing is once again asking Parliament, is this the right person for fulfilling this very important role of Public Protector? Certainly, given this embarrassing court reversal, Parliament would be derelict in its duty if it wasn’t at the very least to initiate an inquiry into the PPs fitness to hold office.”

Mkhwebane has indicated that she planned on appealing Monday’s High Court judgment on the Estina dairy farm matter.
