In December, the South Gauteng High Court granted certification for a class action lawsuit against Tiger brands.
Between 2017 and 2018, over 1,000 people contracted listeriosis, resulting in 218 deaths.
The liability phase requires claimants to prove Tiger Brand’s liability for harm, including death.
Nearly 100 of those who died were newborns.
The next step in the case begins on Monday.
The Health Department traced the outbreak to the company’s Polokwane polony plant.
