Bafana Bafana striker Lebo Mothiba has been nominated for the best African player in France’s Ligue 1 this season.
After displaying early promise at Lille and during his loan spell at Valenciennes last season, the 23-year old has developed further at Strasbourg, scoring nine goals in Ligue 1 and helping the club win their first title since 2005.
Hailing from 10 different countries, from Mzansi to Morocco, the burly striker is up against some of the finest talents in French top-flight football for the award that’s now in its tenth year running.
Previous winners over the past decade include the likes of Marouane Chamakh, Gervinho, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Andre Ayew.
The winner of the award that was formed back in 2009 and named in honor of the late Marc-Vivien Foé will be announced on May 13.
