Atalanta made a bright start to the game and were causing Juventus a lot of problems in the opening 10 minutes. The away side looked quite shaky at the back and weren’t able to get out of their own half too often.

The first real chance of the game came in the 24th minute through Atalanta captain Alejandro Gomez. Gomez cut back inside to create some space on the edge of the box and dip his shot towards the far bottom corner, but the keeper got down low to palm it away and out for a corner.

Soon after, Juve were dealt a blow when Giorgio Chiellini was stretchered off with João Cancelo replacing him. The Bianconeri were giving the ball away needlessly in their own half, which was giving Atalanta more chances to mount a counter-attack everytime they got possession back.

The home side scored the game’s first goal in the 37th minute and deservedly so. Replacement Cancelo tarried on the ball too long at the back and was dispossessed by Timothy Castagne who slotted his shot in to the bottom corner.

Their second came less than two minutes later albeit in scrappy fashion. After a bit of pinball in the area, Mario Pasalic found Duvan Zapata on the edge of the area, who created the angle before hitting a powerful shot past a helpless Wojcech Szczesny.

Juventus piled on the pressure in the second half but their first genuine chance came only in the 68th minute via Sami Khedira.

The corner bounced out to the midfielder on the edge of the box who had time to set himself and hit the shot on the volley heading into the roof of the net only to be denied by a good save from Atalanta goalkeeper Etrit Berisha.

The Nerazzurri put the game beyond doubt in the 86th minute when a poor back pass from Mattia de Sciglio allowed Zapata through on goal. Szczesny came off his line quickly to try and smother the shot, but the forward took the ball around him and found the back of the empty net with a cool finish to wrap up a comprehensive victory.
