Highlands Park And SuperSport United Draw In The Absa Premiership

Highlands Park and SuperSport United played to a 1-1 draw in the last Absa Premiership game of the year at Makhulong Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Highlands came into the game on a three match unbeaten run and aiming to end the year on a high while United were looking to turn the corner as their last win over Maritzburg United had ended a two game losing streak.

A minute to halftime, Shalulile looked to have handed the hosts the lead after getting to the ball ahead of Ronwen Williams but just as he was about to tap-in, the whistle went for a foul.

The stroke of fortune played in United’s favour, as Modiba slotted a reverse pass from Onismor Bhasera underneath the arms of Tapuwa Kapini a minute into added time in the first period.

The second half of the game was met with a lengthy delay due to ominous weather conditions, leading match officials to temporarily suspend the match for a few minutes.

Once resumed, the Lions of the North came with more energy to instantly claw their way back through the head of Mothobi Mvala following a cross from Luckyboy Mokoena.

Highlands were looking for fresh legs as 20 minutes before time Mokete Mogaila replaced striker Moeketsi Sekola.

There were chances at both ends of the pitch in the last ten minutes but the sides were not clinical enough.

United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was keeping his side in theĀ game towards the end as Matsatsantsa survived a late surge from the hosts as they shared the spoils in the end.
